Initially founded in Warsaw in 1928 as “Polskie Linie Lotnicze S.A.”, or LOT for short, the airline developed into one of the most important airlines of the Warsaw Pact states. The collapse of communism led to a radical restructuring of the fleet in the 1990s. In 2004 LOT even became the world’s first customer for the Brazilian Embraer ERJ-170.
