This TR-1, a version of the U-2 for tactical instead of strategic reconnaissance, was relocated with other elements of the 17th reconnaissance squadron as part of Operation Desert Storm from its location at the time at the Alconbury base in England to Saudi Arabia. The pilot and crew were probably fans of the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes", popular in the 1980s and 1990s, and painted Calvin with a camera on the right side of the tail unit with chalk.
