Details of this Awesome Model

The Martin B-26B-15-MA Marauder, with the serial number 41-31576/AN-Z and the nickname 'Dinah Might', was tasked with leading an essential anti-beach fortification raid against Widerstandsnest 5, a stronghold overlooking Utah beach. This critical operation occurred just minutes before the troops landed on D-Day. Major David Dewhurst, the experienced commander of the 553rd Bomb Squadron of the US 8th Air Force, piloted 'Dinah Might' during this final opportunity to eliminate German defenses and give the Allied forces a better chance of success during their historic seaborne assault.

Timing and navigation were crucial factors in the success of this mission, and 'Dinah Might' dropped its bombs with precision at precisely 06.24.30 on D-Day. The details surrounding this bombing raid highlight the reasons why the Utah Beach D-Day Museum chose to feature the Marauder as a centrepiece of their collection. The museum's preserved representation of 'Dinah Might' is an impressive sight, and visitors can easily imagine the courageous efforts of Major Dewhurst and his crew as they risked their lives to help ensure the safety of their fellow soldiers.

Interestingly, the target of 'Dinah Might's' bombing run was just a few meters from where the preserved aircraft now stands. This is a testament to the incredible accuracy and bravery of the Allied forces during the D-Day invasion. Fans of aviation history and collectors alike will appreciate the high-quality die-cast models of the Aviation Archive, which come in both 1:72 and 1:48 scales and feature a display stand and optional parts.
