The DeAgostini 1/72 scale range offers collectors an affordable way to own detailed miniatures of famous wartime aircraft. Each model comes pre-finished and ready to display, capturing key features of the original design with impressive accuracy. This Kawasaki Ki-45 “Toryu” (meaning “Dragon Slayer”) represents one of Japan’s most distinctive twin-engine fighters from the Second World War.
The Ki-45 was introduced by the Japanese Army Air Service in the early 1940s as a long-range heavy fighter and night interceptor. It saw service across Southeast Asia and in the defence of the Japanese home islands, where it was used against Allied bombers. Despite being outmatched by faster single-engine fighters, the Toryu earned respect for its ruggedness and ability to carry a powerful armament, including 20mm and 37mm cannons. Today, it remains an important aircraft in Japanese aviation history and a favourite among World War II model collectors.
