HISTORY OF THE AIRCRAFT:

British Airways Boeing 747-236 G-BDXA – A Giant of the Skies

When collectors look at an exclusive model like the WB Models British Airways Boeing 747-236 G-BDXA in 1/200 scale, it’s more than just a beautiful die-cast replica. Behind the polished finish and authentic markings lies a rich history of one of British Airways’ most iconic aircraft.

Built in a Time of Change

G-BDXA was a Boeing 747-236B, carrying the manufacturer’s serial number 21238 (line number 292). Its very first flight took place on 3rd September 1976, and it was officially delivered to British Airways on 27th July 1977.

Unlike many other 747s of the era, the -236B series was powered by Rolls-Royce RB211-524B engines. This was a deliberate move by BA to back the struggling Rolls-Royce company in the 1970s, helping the British engine manufacturer rebuild after a period of financial turbulence.

Years of Service

For nearly a quarter of a century, G-BDXA flew countless passengers across the globe as part of BA’s long-haul fleet. It wore classic British Airways liveries throughout its career, from the early Negus design of the late 1970s to the later Landor scheme and eventually the World Tails era.

From Heathrow to far-flung destinations across North America, Asia, Africa, and beyond, the aircraft embodied the reliability and prestige of British Airways during its rise as a truly global carrier.

Retirement and Farewell

After serving faithfully for almost 25 years, G-BDXA was withdrawn from the BA fleet in 2001. It was stored in Marana, Arizona, and eventually scrapped in 2003. Though the aircraft itself is no longer with us, its memory lives on through photographs, stories, and, of course, high-quality scale models like this exclusive WB Models release.

Why G-BDXA Still Matters

For aviation fans and collectors, G-BDXA represents more than just a registration on a tail. It’s a symbol of the era when the 747 “Jumbo Jet” redefined air travel, and British Airways established itself as a powerhouse on the world stage.

This model is exclusive to Airspotters for a very short time.
