Despite the advent of the jet age, Douglas and Lockheed continued to further develop their successful DC-6s and Constellations in the mid-1950s. Results included the DC-7 and the L1649A "Starliner" from Lockheed. In 1957, TWA premiered the Starliner on the route from Los Angeles to London.
