Virgin Atlantic Airways only had one Boeing 747-100 in its fleet, with the registration G-VMIA. Also known as the “Spirit of Sir Freddie”, it was named after Virgin Atlantic's founder, Richard Branson [1].

The Boeing 747-100 was the first iteration of the iconic “Queen of the Skies” design. Virgin Atlantic started operations in 1984 with a leased Boeing 747-200, but the 747-100, G-VMIA, joined the fleet in 1990 [1].

Virgin Atlantic retired its entire 747 fleet in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on air travel. The last passenger flight for Virgin Atlantic's 747s was a special “rescue flight” from Los Angeles back to London Heathrow in March 2020

I think my fav Virg Livery, had too have it next to a BA Landor type!

Posted by Garry on 3rd Jul 2024

Decided to have this one as ,1 i think their best Virgin livery so far and 2,being BigBird an excellent B747-200 classic mould!

Frankly the BA Phoenix one was a surprise last year as they have improved their mould, colours were spot on and much better and with the (big sale BA Landor livery graphics of the early 1990s)! So a fitting pair as around the same time in those liveries!

I think the New Zealand one is one i would like too and then i think then i have enough 200 classic jumbo models etc. Thats now available ,same brand etc.

Actually the current Virgin livery looks best on a PPC model where they have painted the white a silver instead and on that particular livery they adorn now, looks sooooooo much better! Thats on a 1:200 scale PPC B747-400 V.Atlantic model.Really brings out the purple in that livery along the fuselage!

Other than that ,a must for any Virgin Atlantic collector! Also this livery is rarely seen in models that are Virgin branded,Usually its the livery before and after this one most have models that adorn their liveries of the past!

Engine detail is very good as alot of 200s of the past were not that good in that area!Massive improvement on these new ones! Comes with a sticker i think or Ciero info ,have not checked yet.
