One of JC Wings’ more unusual new releases recreates a remarkable moment in modern Hong Kong aviation history: Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-1000 B-LXI and its commemorative flight over Victoria Harbour.
A special flight for Kai Tak’s centenary
On 30 March 2025, B-LXI operated special flight CX8100 to mark the 100th anniversary of Kai Tak Airport. The occasion coincided with the Hong Kong Sevens, held for the first time at the new Kai Tak Sports Park.
After departing Hong Kong International Airport, the A350-1000 made a spectacular low-level flypast along Victoria Harbour and close to the site of the former airport. Descending to approximately 1,000 feet, the aircraft offered spectators a rare modern echo of the dramatic approaches that made Kai Tak famous worldwide.
The wording “Kai Tak Low Pass” describes the commemorative flight rather than a special aircraft colour scheme. B-LXI remained in Cathay Pacific’s standard livery.
Two JC Wings 1:200 editions
JC Wings is recreating B-LXI in two highly detailed 1:200 scale versions, allowing collectors to choose between the aircraft’s standard configuration and a more dramatic flaps-down display:
- SA2110 – standard configuration: supplied with detachable landing gear and a display stand.
- SA2110A – flaps-down configuration: supplied with landing gear and a display stand.
A memorable addition for Hong Kong aviation collectors
Both releases capture a fascinating meeting of old and new: one of Cathay Pacific’s most advanced long-haul aircraft paying tribute to one of aviation’s most legendary airports.
For collectors of Cathay Pacific, the Airbus A350 or Kai Tak memorabilia—and especially for anyone who remembers the famous checkerboard approaches—B-LXI is a model with a story that reaches far beyond the aircraft itself.
