Seeing Double? Why Your Bank Account Might Show a Twin Charge (And Why You Haven't Actually Been Billed Twice)
If you've recently looked at your bank statement after shopping with us and done a double-take, you are not alone. A few of our customers have noticed what appears to be two identical charges on their orders.
We completely understand how alarming that can be! Nobody wants to be billed twice.
We want to reassure you right away: you have been charged only once.
What you are seeing is actually a behind-the-scenes security feature designed by banks to protect your money. Here is a quick breakdown of exactly what is happening and why.
The Mystery of the "Authorisation Hold"
Modern banking security is stricter than ever. When you buy something online, your bank and our payment processor (Stripe) do a quick digital double-check to make sure your card is active and has enough funds.
This process triggers two distinct steps on your bank's side:
-
The Authorisation Hold: Your bank instantly "freezes" the order amount so it can't be spent elsewhere while they verify the transaction.
-
The Settlement: The bank confirms everything is secure and officially transfers the money to us.
Why does it look like two charges?
Normally, the temporary hold disappears the exact moment the official charge goes through. However, some banks are a little slow to clear the paperwork. For a few days, their systems mistakenly display both the temporary hold and the final captured charge simultaneously.
It looks like a duplicate, but it's actually the same digital dollar bill shown at two different stages of the process.
The Golden Rule: Our payment system confirms that the transaction is only captured once. The extra line item you see is entirely temporary.
What should you do next?
-
Give it a few days: In 99% of cases, your bank will automatically clean up its dashboard. The temporary authorisation hold will disappear within 3 to 5 business days, leaving only the single correct charge.
-
Check back after 5 days: If you still see two identical charges after 5 business days, we recommend reaching out directly to your bank's customer service. Ask them to "confirm that the temporary authorisation hold has been released." They will be able to clear it right up for you.
We appreciate your trust in us, and we are always here to help ensure your shopping experience is safe, secure, and transparent. If you have any questions at all about your order, please don't hesitate to give our support team a shout!
