The real aircraft is associated with Canadian musician Drake and was operated by Cargojet. Its unusual appearance has made it instantly recognisable among aviation photographers and enthusiasts.

Government and head-of-state aircraft have long held a special fascination for collectors. This Boeing 767 makes an interesting companion to models of Air Force One and other internationally recognised government transports.

United States Air Force Boeing YAL-1A 00-0001

Perhaps the most extraordinary aircraft in this entire selection is the United States Air Force Boeing YAL-1A Airborne Laser.

Developed from the Boeing 747-400F, the YAL-1A was an experimental aircraft created as part of a programme to test an airborne laser system for missile defence. Its most recognisable feature was the large rotating laser turret installed in the aircraft’s nose.

Only one YAL-1A was produced, carrying serial number 00-0001. Its combination of a familiar Boeing 747 airframe, USAF grey finish and heavily modified nose made it one of the most unusual Jumbo Jets ever built.

InFlight 200’s model captures this extraordinary aircraft in 1:200 scale, complete with its Edwards Air Force Base “ED” tail markings. It is certain to become a talking point and would make a superb addition to any collection of experimental aircraft, military Boeing 747s or unusual aviation projects.
