Fifty-Six Years & Many Airlines Later. Subtitled “My Adventures Whilst Working in the Airline Business”, this is the author's account of his long career as a licensed aircraft engineer with numerous airlines and maintenance organisations, both in the UK and further afield. This is no dry account of the technical challenges of aircraft engineering. Far from it. Along with the facts, he relates a multitude of stories and recollections, many of which have a distinctly humorous element. These cover subjects as diverse as studying for his licences, rectifying flap problems, a job interview with a start-up airline called EasyJet, which he terminated because he “had no intention of working at Luton,” and attending to a (seriously) blocked toilet on an Air Europe 757. Upon reaching the end of his book, one gets the distinct impression that the author has “been there, done that,” whatever the airline or aircraft type in question. That he recounts it all in such an amusing and readable way is much to his credit. Photos are numerous, many of them from Cooper’s own files.

Apart from being your own story, it is a very gratifying tribute to the thousands of Engineers in the aircraft industry. The people who actually keep aeroplanes airworthy and flying.    Much has been made of air crews in the past; it was high time (pardon the pun) someone like your good self lifted the lid on the hard work, dedication, and standards required to ensure safe passage in what is most probably the World’s most popular means of travel.

Just wanted to let you know that I finished the book, and all I can say is... wow! How on earth can you remember things that happened so many years ago? I have trouble remembering what I did last month! Well done for that alone - most impressive!

Anyways, congratulations on a job well done. I can only imagine how much time you spent putting it all together, but it was worth it. I think that most people in the industry (particularly those you have crossed paths with) would enjoy it, and I hope you sell many more copies. Anyway, I read the book in 3 days! I couldn’t put it down as I could relate to so much of it. Like you, I’ve kept a record of all my flights, and from that I can remember all my adventures! Anyway, a great book, Bob.
