The Corgi Aviation Archive Westland Lysander Mk. IIIA AA36806 is a collectable 1/72 scale diecast limited edition model of one of the most famous RAF Special Duties aircraft of the Second World War. This release represents Westland Lysander Mk. IIIA V9673 / MA-J, named “Jiminy Cricket”, associated with RAF No.161 Squadron and Hugh Verity. Retail and collector listings identify AA36806 as the Corgi Lysander Mk.IIIA restored as V9673, linked with RAF 161 Squadron, Hugh Verity and the aircraft displayed at IWM Duxford.

The Westland Lysander was originally designed for army co-operation and reconnaissance, but it became legendary for its clandestine wartime role. Its excellent short take-off and landing performance made it ideal for secret night operations into occupied Europe, where RAF Special Duties crews landed in small fields to deliver and collect agents, resistance personnel and important documents.

This model’s “Jiminy Cricket” identity gives it especially strong collector appeal. Historical model notes describe V9673 / MA-J as Hugh Verity’s trusted Lysander, with the Jiminy Cricket cartoon character painted below the cockpit and “V for Victory” markings added after missions. Verity later wrote about these operations in We Landed by Moonlight, making this subject one of the most evocative Lysander releases in the Corgi Aviation Archive range.

The model is listed as a limited edition of 1,100 pieces, making AA36806 a desirable discontinued Corgi release for collectors of RAF Special Duties aircraft, SOE operations, Duxford aircraft, Westland Lysanders and 1/72 scale diecast military aircraft.

Collector Notes

This model represents one of the most atmospheric RAF aircraft subjects of the Second World War. The Lysander’s secret-agent role gives AA36806 a very different appeal from standard fighter or bomber releases. The combination of RAF No.161 Squadron, Hugh Verity, V9673 / MA-J, the “Jiminy Cricket” artwork and the limited production run makes this a strong discontinued collector piece.

It pairs especially well with other Corgi Special Duties aircraft, RAF night-operation subjects, D-Day and SOE-related models, as well as other Westland Lysander releases in the Aviation Archive range.
