The Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR.1 made aviation history as the world’s first operational vertical/short take-off and landing (V/STOL) jet aircraft. In May 1969, Harrier XV741 participated in the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race, demonstrating the revolutionary capabilities of Britain’s new jump jet by flying from St. Pancras, London to New York in record time.
