Herpa Luftwaffe Panavia Tornado IDS - WTD61, Manching “Tornado 50 Years” – 43+97 Scale 1/200, 573573

On August 14th, 1974, the Panavia Tornado multi-role combat aircraft took off at Manching, Germany, for its first flight. 50 years later, the aircraft is still operational with the Air Forces of Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia. To celebrate the 50th anniversary, the German Air Force’s Technical and Airworthiness Centre for Aircraft painted one of its jets in remembrance of the first prototype and incorporated style elements of the prototype and pre-series aircraft used for flight testing at Manching in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The most prominent detail is the Panavia Tornado roundel on its tail, which combines the roundels of the consortium’s partner nations Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
