The Corgi Aviation Archive Vickers Wellington Mk. VIII HX379 / WN-A is a collectable 1/72 scale diecast model of an RAF Coastal Command anti-submarine aircraft from the Battle of the Atlantic. This release, product code AA34805, represents the Vickers Wellington Mk. VIII HX379 / WN-A of No.172 Squadron, RAF Coastal Command, in late 1942. Retail listings identify the model as Corgi AA34805 Vickers Wellington Mk. VIII HX379 / WN-A, No.172 Squadron Coastal Command, late 1942.

The Wellington Mk.VIII was a maritime patrol and anti-submarine development of the Wellington bomber, fitted with equipment such as ASV Mk.II radar and, in some aircraft, a Leigh Light for night attacks on surfaced submarines. Notes that the GR.VIII was modified from the Mk. An IC bomber and a Wellington of No.172 Squadron carried out the first night attack on a surfaced submarine using a Leigh Light on 3/4 June 1942, flown by Squadron Leader J.H. Greswell.

This AA34805 release is especially appealing because it represents a specialist Coastal Command aircraft rather than a standard Bomber Command Wellington. Collector listings also note the model’s working Leigh Light feature, giving it extra display and historical interest.

Produced by Corgi Aviation Archive, this model is ideal for collectors of RAF Coastal Command, Vickers Wellington aircraft, Battle of the Atlantic subjects, anti-submarine warfare aircraft, and 1/72 scale diecast military models.

Collector Notes

This model represents a highly specialised chapter in the Wellington story. While the Wellington is often remembered as an early RAF bomber, the Mk.VIII Coastal Command version played an important role in night anti-submarine operations. The combination of No.172 Squadron, HX379 / WN-A, and the Leigh Light connection gives AA34805 strong appeal for collectors of RAF maritime aircraft.

It pairs well with Corgi Beauforts, Beaufighters, Sunderlands, Liberators, Coastal Command B-17s, Swordfish and other Battle of the Atlantic aircraft.
