This Inflight200 1:200 scale model represents the United States Air Force Lockheed C-141C Starlifter 66-0177, famously known as the “Hanoi Taxi.”

On 12 February 1973, the aircraft carried the first group of American prisoners of war from Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi to freedom during Operation Homecoming. Across two missions from Hanoi, it transported 78 returning POWs and two civilian returnees to the Philippines. Courtesy of Nationalmuseum.af.mil

Originally built as a C-141A, 66-0177 was subsequently lengthened and converted into a C-141B before later receiving strengthened wings and advanced avionics to become a C-141C. In 2002, it was repainted in a scheme commemorating its historic 1973 mission. Courtesy of Nationalmuseum.af.mil

The Hanoi Taxi completed more than 40,000 flying hours and remained in service until 2006. Its final flight marked the retirement of the last operational C-141 Starlifter from US Air Force service, after which it entered preservation at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

Important Historical Note

During Operation Homecoming in 1973, 66-0177 was configured as a C-141A. This model represents the aircraft in its later C-141C configuration, wearing the commemorative markings applied near the end of its service life.
