The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 N211MD was one of the first three prototypes built and the only one to be painted in the full McDonnell Douglas house colors. This livery was quite distinctive:

  • The main color was a rich purple
  • A thick, multi-toned cheatline ran along the bottom of the windows
  • A thin gold stripe ran above the cheatline
  • The tail continued the striping theme, but it didn't quite meet the fuselage stripes

This particular paint scheme is popular with aviation enthusiasts

JCW Mould still the best out there IMO.

Of late Phoenix has been doing alot of DC-10s and MD-11s,not so with JCW! However it seems 2024 has been the year of the retro livery and planes? Besides that Phoenix have released a bucket-load of retro liveries in DC/MD form! OK but JCW ones seem to have this edge i feel over Phoenix! Only one i still would like to see done by either as i suspect Aeroclassics will never do it again is a DC-10 in Caledonian Airways NOT BCAL and Northwest Orient liveries! Been done but along time ago and for those who missed out its been like 15yrs and still no show!
Both i think done before by Aeroclassics, maybe Gemini or Phoenix?.Rare to find 2nd hand as of low numbers made.JCW seem to be scarce with doing MD-11s as well.

This particular model has a great brand livery of the purple hues! Goes great with its also JCW sister the version thats all in crome ,another in (inhouse livery)
Its one of the MD-11 liveries that stands out even so an inhouse scheme of the company that built it!
Worth having in a collection as i bet it will be an iternity again before we see the likes done at 1:400 scale!
